On this day in 1997, David Bowie is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  It is located outside the Hollywood Galaxy Theatre.  

Today in 1964, The Beatles conclude their triumphant first American visit with two 25-minute shows at Carnegie Hall.  The band remains in the U.S. to record two more Ed Sullivan appearances.  

And in 1968, Jimi Hendrix was presented with a key to the city of Seattle.  He also played a free show for students at Garfield High School, where, as a former student, he was given an honorary diploma.
