On this day in 1978, Van Halen released their self-titled debut studio album.  The album contains some of Van Halen’s most well-known songs, including ‘Runnin’ with the Devil’, ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love’, ‘Jamie’s Cryin”, and their cover of The Kinks’ ‘You Really Got Me.’   Van Halen was a major commercial success selling more than 10 million copies in the United States.  

Today in 1972, Britain’s most popular glam-rock act, ‘T-Rex’, kicks off their first headlining tour of the U.S. in support of their current hit, “Bang a Gong”.  

And in 1973, Elton John had his first UK no.1 album when ‘Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player’ started a six-week run at the top of the charts on the strength of the tracks ‘Daniel’ and ‘Crocodile Rock’.
