On this day in 1961, The Beatles, with a lineup of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, bass player Stuart Sutcliffe and drummer Pete Best, play the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the first time. Three years later, in 1964, they made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, with over 73 million people watching.
Today in 1981 American singer and musician Bill Haley who became known as the first rock ‘n’ roll star, died of a heart attack at aged 55. He scored the 1955 no.1 single ‘Rock Around the Clock’ along with ‘See You Later, Alligator’, and ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’,
And in 2012, Paul McCartney finally got his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, becoming the last of the four Beatles to get the honor.
