On this day in 1980, Tokyo police arrest Paul McCartney after airport officials found half a pound of marijuana in his suitcase. Wings’ scheduled eleven-date tour is canceled and Paul is sentenced to ten days behind bars.
Today in 1992, Eric Clapton recorded his unplugged session for MTV. The set which included his current hit single ‘Tears in Heavenand a reworked acoustic version of ‘Layla’, earned six grammy awards for the album including record of the year.
And in 1988, 24 years after the Beatles first topped the chart, George Harrisontops the billboard chart with the first single from his “Cloud Nine ” album, “Got My Mind Set on You.”
