In 2001, guitarist Joe Walsh received an honorary Doctorate of Music from Kent State University in Ohio. He’d left there in the 60’s when his band, the James Gang, started to take off. 

In 1977, the Who played a secret concert for a select group of fans in London. Footage of that show would be part of the film “The Kids Are Alright.”  

John & Yoko’s Plastic Ono Band made its London debut on this day in 1969, playing a Christmas benefit for UNICEF. They only did two songs, including a 20-minute version of Lennon’s “Cold Turkey.” Most critics panned the show.
