Today is the birthday of “Birthday!” Today in 1968, The Beatles wrote and recorded “Birthday” in one long session at Abbey Road Studios. They did 20 takes of the song, finishing around 5am. Their usual producer, George Martin, was on vacation.
In 1983 Kiss released their Lick It Up album, surprising fans by appearing on MTV—and the album cover—without their usual make-up. They’d stay ‘unmasked’ for over a decade.
And the man who singlehandedly changed the sound of rock guitar, Jimi Hendrix, died on this day in 1970 in London. He was just 27 years old.
