Today in 1976, Elton John started a 10 night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The one and a quarter million dollars generated by the shows broke the record set by the Stones the year before. X 

And happy birthday to Ian Anderson, the leader of Jethro Tull. The man who made the flute into a rock and roll instrument is 75.
