Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

July 29 |

Happy birthday to Rush vocalist, bass player, and keyboardist Geddy Lee. He turns 69 today.

On July 29, 1973, someone stole $180,000 in cash—the money from Led Zeppelin’s first two nights at Madison Square Garden—from a safe at the Drake Hotel. The still unsolved caper was featured in the film, “The Song Remains the Same.”

And The Doors hit #1 on the charts for the first time on this date in 1967 with the single version of “Light My Fire.”
