Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

May 18 |

One of the biggest and least known rock events of the ’60’s took place on this day in 1968: the Northern California Rock Festival in Santa Clara. The two-day event featured the Steve Miller Band, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and the Doors.

Today in 1966, a young Bruce Springsteen stepped into a recording studio for the first time, recording with his garage band The Castiles in Brick Town, NJ.

And happy birthday to Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is 73 today.
