On this day in 1963, publicist Andrew Oldham became the manager of The Rolling Stones after buying the rights to the band’s first recordings for £90 (pounds) —about $250 at the time.
In 1971, rock promoter Bill Graham announced he was closing down both the Fillmore West and the Fillmore East, the venues that gave countless classic rockers their start.
And in 1976, after a gig in Memphis, Bruce Springsteen took a cab to Elvis Presley’s Graceland home and climbed over the wall. Elvis wasn’t there, and a guard soon escorted “the Boss” off “The King’s” property.
