On this day in 1987, U2’s “The Joshua Tree” album entered the chart at #7, making it the highest new entry on the American charts in seven years. It would go on to hit #1 in over 20 countries.  

Today in 1967, Paul McCartney told Beatles PR man Derek Taylor, who was producing the upcoming Monterey Pop Festival, he should check out this amazing guitar player he and John had just seen named Jimi Hendrix.  

And the #1 slot on the album chart this day in 1970 was filled by Crosby Stills Nash and Young’s “Deja Vu.”
