After 9 years of research and development, RCA Victor introduced the first 45 RPM record in 1949. It was designed to compete with Long Playing records, or LP’s, which Columbia had introduced the year before.
In 1967 Jimi Hendrix began a major British tour in London at The Astoria. It was the first time he ever set fire to his guitar, something he’d become famous for at the Monterey Pop festival a few months later.
And birthday greetings go out today to a pair of guitar legends: Mick Ralphs of Bad Company who’s 78, and Angus Young of AC/DC, who celebrates turning 67.
