Guitarist Mike Campbell turns 72 today; he was Tom Petty’s right-hand man in The Heartbreakers since 1975. Since then, he’s toured with Fleetwood Mac and leads his own band, The Dirty Knobs.

On this day in 1967, Pink Floyd signed their first recording contract with EMI Records. They were also in the studio that day, adding overdubs to their debut single, “Arnold Layne.”

And on this day in 1964 the Beatles had their first #1 single in the US ”I Want to Hold Your Hand.” It’d stay there for seven weeks total.
