He once referred to himself as the only man ever to quit the Rolling Stones . . . and live! On this day in 1974, guitarist Mick Taylor announced he was leaving the group. He’s wrong, though…Bill Wyman left in 1992 and also survived.
Pianist Ian Stewart, a founding member of the Rolling Stones, died on this day in 1985. Though he was asked to leave the group by their original manager in 1963, he played on most of their albums, and was inducted with them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And happy birthday today to guitarist and vocalist Dickey Betts, co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, who’s 78.
