In 1973, RCA Records released David Bowie’s covers album, “Pin-Ups,” a collection of mid-’60’s hits, including the Yardbirds’ “Shapes of Things,” and The Who’s “I Can’t Explain.”  

In 1966, The Yardbirds–now featuring the two-guitar lineup of Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page—arrived in New York to start their first US Tour. Beck would leave the band before it was over.  

And Happy Birthday to Patrick Simmons. The Doobie Brothers’ founding guitarist and vocalist is 73.
