August 17 |

August 17th, 1969, was the third and final day of the Woodstock festival–officially. Jimi Hendrix wouldn’t end his set until mid-morning the following day. Among the highlights were sets by The Band, Joe Cocker, and Crosby Stills Nash and Young.

In 1998, Carlos Santana was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And in 1974, Eric Clapton had his first #1 album with “461 Ocean Blvd.” It also featured his first #1 single, his cover of Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff.”
