On this day in 1970, Princeton University presented Bob Dylan with an honorary Doctorate of Music degree. He graciously accepted the honor, but refused to wear the traditional cap & gown at the ceremony.
In 1978, The Rolling Stones released Some Girls. The album was a hit, but some of the “girls” pictured on the cover–Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, and Raquel Welch, among others–threatened to sue. The cover was quickly changed.
And today marks the birth anniversary of rock and roll pioneer Les Paul. Born in 1915, Les invented two things pivotal to rock and roll: the solid-body electric guitar and multi-track recording.
