Today in 1971, The Rolling Stones album, “Sticky Fingers” started a four week stay at #1 in the U.S. The cover design by Andy Warhol featured a pair of jeans with a working zipper on the original release.  

In 1976, Paul McCartney hit #1 on the singles charts with “Silly Love Songs,” his tongue in cheek answer to critics—including John Lennon—who said his songs were ‘lightweight.’ Silly or not, it spent 5 weeks in the top spot.  

And happy Birthday to Bernie Taupin, lyricist for Elton John, who’s 71.
