On September 19th, 1979, the first of a three day benefit began at Madison Square Garden in New York – the “No Nukes” concerts. Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, the Doobie Brothers, and Crosby, Stills and Nash were among the players who showed up to help MUSE, the Musicians United For Safe Energy. The concerts, the film, and the three-record set raised more than $750,000.
And on this day in 1981, the number one spot on the album chart belonged to the Rolling Stones’ “Tattoo You,” featuring Start Me Up, Hang Fire & Waiting On A Friend.
