On this day in 1979, Eric Clapton married Patti Boyd, the ex-wife of George Harrison. Patti is the inspiration for the Derek and the Dominos’ classic, “Layla,” as well as Eric’s hit “Wonderful Tonight,” and The Beatles’ “Something.” Eric and Patti divorced in 1988.
Sammy Hagar played his first gig as a member of Van Halen on this day in 1986, as the band began a 112 date US tour in Shreveport, Louisiana.
And Birthday greetings go out today to one of the founding members of Genesis, keyboardist Tony Banks, who’s 71.
