Today In 1978, Van Halen released their self-titled debut album, introducing us all to Eddie Van Halen’s signature guitar style for the first time.  

And exactly a year later, we were introduced to Mark Knopfler’s Stratocaster tone on Dire Straits’ debut single, “Sultans of Swing.”  

And Happy 72nd Birthday to drummer and singer Nigel Olssen, who’s been playing in Elton John’s band since 1970. He’s still with him on the postponed farewell tour, after over 2400 shows together.
