February 7
One of the most spectacular rock concerts ever staged made its American debut on this day in 1980. Pink Floyd unveiled “The Wall,” live at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. There were only a dozen shows in the US, all in LA and New York, until Roger Waters brought an even more elaborate version worldwide in 2010.
And the Beatles first set foot in America on this day back in 1964, landing at New York’s Kennedy Airport. They didn’t expect the multitude of screaming fans at all–they thought the president must have arrived at the same time.
