December 23

On this day in 1968, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, visited the Apple Records offices during their Christmas Party, handing out presents to children of the staff.

Today in 1972, Grand Funk Railroad were on stage at Madison Square Garden when their former manager, Terry Knight, arrived with a court order saying he could seize one million dollars’ worth of money or assets from the band. He impounded their instruments and equipment soon as they were done.

And birthday greetings to Jorma Kaukonen, founding guitarist for Jefferson Airplane, who turns 80.
