Flooding from Idalia could become much worse for portions of the Gulf Coast because of a rare blue supermoon. Its intense gravitational pull makes tides much higher.
Storm surge was already a major concern ahead of Idalia, and the position of the moon in proximity to the Earth could make the storm surge worse. Parts of the Gulf could see surges as high as 16 feet.
