Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

August 27

Stevie Ray Vaughan died on this day in 1990. The guitarist had just finished two nights at Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin, sharing the bill with Eric Clapton, BB King, Robert Cray, and his brother Jimmy Vaughan, when the helicopter he was in crashed in dense fog. He was 35 years old.

Today in 1965 was the last of 5-days off for The Beatles during their North American Tour. They spent the day watching a recording session with The Byrds, and then met Elvis Presley at his Beverly Hills mansion. The meeting of rock icons was described as “awkward.”
