On this day in 1967, The Beatles release “Strawberry Fields Forever” as a single in the U.S., with “Penny Lane” on the flip side. The single spent 10 weeks on the chart peaking at no.1.
Today in 1978, Dire Straits began recording their first album in London. the project cost less than 25 thousand dollars and featured the group’s breakthrough single ‘Sultans of Swing’ which enjoyed a 132 week run on the charts.
And in 2005, Led Zeppelin were awarded a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys. Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham’s son, Jason Bonham, all attended. Robert Plant, working on a new album and tour, was unable to attend.
