On this day in 1983, the Recording Industry Association of America awards Bob Seger his seventh consecutive U.S. platinum award for the album, “The Distance” containing the hits “Even Now” and “Roll Me Away”.  

Today in 1972, Led Zeppelin scored their third U.S. top 20 hit single with ‘Black Dog’ from their fourth studio album.   the song’s title is a reference to a nameless black Labrador retriever that wandered around the studios during the recording of the album.  

And in 1964, The Beatles play their first U.S. concert, performing at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, DC.  Over 350 police surrounded the stage to keep the 8,000 plus screaming fans in control.
