On this day in 1964, over 5,000 Beatles fans greeted pan am flight 101 as it arrived at New York’s JFK airport, bringing the Beatles to the U.S. for the first time and causing riotous scenes as they touched down.  

Today in 1969, The Who recorded ‘Pinball Wizard’ in London, England.  The song is one of the band’s most famous live songs, being played at almost every who concert since its live debut in May of 1969.  

Finally, in 1981 Pink Floyd began ‘The Wall’ tour in the U.S. when they gave their first live performance of the new double album in Los Angeles.  During the show, a 30-foot-high wall made of styrofoam blocks was constructed across the stage.
