February 3 |
February 3rd, 1959 was for many, “the day the music died”, when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The BIg Bopper all died in a plane crash just outside Mason City, Iowa in a snowstorm. Holly was only 22 and Valens was just 17.
Today in 1970, ‘Led Zeppelin II’ was in the top 20 on both the UK & US album charts, peaking at #1 with tracks “Whole Lotta Love”, “Ramble On”, “Heartbreaker” and others. It is recognized by many critics as one of the greatest and most influential rock albums ever recorded.
And in 1967 Jimi Hendrix adds vocals and overdubs for his anthemic “Purple Haze” at Olympic Studios in London; the basic track had been recorded earlier by the band in January.
