On this day in 1969 Led Zeppelinplayed the first of two nights at the Fillmore East, New York. It is alleged that Zeppelin’s show was so powerful that headliners Iron Butterfly refused to follow them.
Today in 1989, two months after his death, Roy Orbison’s released the album ‘Mystery Girl’ with contributions from Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Bono and George Harrison. The lead single, “You Got It”, gives Orbison his first us top 10 hit since 1964 with “(Oh) Pretty Woman.”
It was 1970 in New Orleanswhen the Grateful Dead are arrested for possession of LSDand barbiturates, an incident that would inspire one of their most famous songs, “Truckin’.”
