On this day in 1985, 46 major American recording artists featuring Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Steve Perry, Bruce Springsteen, Lindsay Buckingham and others came together at A & M Studios in Hollywood to record “We Are The World.” 

Today In 1978 Van Halen released their first single, a cover of The Kinks’ ‘You Really Got Me’ for their 1978 debut album.  The song helped jump-start the band’s career, as it had done for The Kinks 14 years earlier.  

A sad day for rock and roll with the loss of Billy Powell, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s keyboardist in 2009, Jim Calpaldi of Traffic in 2005 and Paul Kantner, founding member of Jefferson Airplane who was 74 in 2016.
