On this day in 1968 Pink Floyd played their first gig without Syd Barrett. Members of Floyd decided not to pick Syd Barrett up on the way to the show due to his ongoing troubles. That was the end of Syd Barrett as part of Pink Floyd.
Today in 2018 Fleetwood Mac perform at the Musicares benefit in Radio City Music Hall, where they are honored. It is Lindsey Buckingham’s last performance with the group; three months later, he is ousted, replaced by Mike Campbell from Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers and Neil Finn from Crowded House.
And virtuoso guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who passed away October of 2020, was born today in 1955.
