On this day in 1969, Pete Best, the drummer that the Beatles replaced in favor of Ringo Starr, wins a defamation suit against John, Paul and George.  Pete Best sued over remarks Ringo made in an interview implying that he was kicked out of the band because of drug use.

Today in 1974, former members from Free, (Paul Rodgers & Simon Kirke), Mott the Hoople (Mick Ralphs), and King Crimson, (Boz Burrell), form Bad Company.  The band went on to score a us no.1 album with their debut release, one of the first on Led Zeppelin’s swan song label.
