On this day in 1992 Nirvana appeared on NBC-TV’s Saturday Night Live performing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Territorial Pissings’.   Also on same day, the group’s Nevermind went to no.1 on the USalbum chart.  

The Jimi Hendrix Experience spent this day in a London studio in 1967, recording the iconic ‘Purple Haze’.  He later stated the song was about a dream he had where “he was walking under the sea.”  

And today in 1985, the very first “Rock in Rio”, a Brazilian rock festival was held featuring; Queen, Rod Stewart, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Yes and Iron Maiden.
