After five years away, John Lennon returned to the music business on September 22, 1980, when he signed a contract with Geffen records. John & Yoko would release the “Double Fantasy” album a few months later.  

In 1992, Bruce Springsteen decided not to go acoustic the day of his MTV Unplugged taping. He stayed electric, and the show was renamed “MTV: Plugged” for one episode.  

And the first Farm Aid was held on this day in 1985 in Champaign, Illinois. Headliners included John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan.
