On this day in 1968, Rolling Stone Magazine published a Pete Townshend interview where he mentions his idea for a rock opera about a deaf, dumb and blind boy. It was the first hint of what would become “Tommy.”  

Happy Birthday to Zak Starkey, Ringo Starr’s son, long time drummer for The Who and several other artists. He turns 57 today.  

And also, two members of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s classic lineup, guitarists Ed King and Steve Gaines, were both born today in 1949.
