Pink Floyd made their live debut in the US today in 1967. The Syd Barrett-led version of the band played the Winterland in San Francisco. Also playing that night: Big Brother and the Holding Company, featuring Janis Joplin on vocals.
Jethro Tull played a sold-out charity concert at Carnegie Hall in New York on this day in 1970. Proceeds went to a drug rehab facility called “Phoenix House.”
And in 1991 Johnny Cash, the Yardbirds and the Jimi Hendrix Experience were announced as some of the 1992 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
