On this day in 1964, the English group Davie Jones and the King Bees released their debut single, “Liza Jane.” It flopped, but the King Bees’ singer would change his name to David Bowie the following year.
“Feast of Friends,” a documentary about the Doors, premiered in Los Angeles on this day in 1969, one of only a few screenings. It wouldn’t come to home video until 2014.
And Bob Dylan graduated from L.C. Humes High School in Hibbing, Minnesota, on this day in 1959. Next stop, Greenwich Village.
