On this day in 1974, Jefferson Airplane began their first tour under their new name, Jefferson Starship.
In 1982, Randy Rhodes, the 25 year old lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, was killed when the small plane he was in crashed while trying to buzz their tour bus. Rhodes had just won “Guitar Player” magazine’s 1981 award for Best New Talent.
And in 1981, The J Geils Band were at the end of a 6-week run at the top of the US singles charts with “Centerfold.”
