Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

August 31

Happy Birthday today to Van Morrison. The singer and songwriter of hits like “Moondance,” “”Wild Night,” “Brown Eyed Girl,” and more is 75 years old.

Today in 1976, George Harrison was found guilty of “Subconsciously Plagiarizing” the Chiffon’s 1963 hit, “He’s So Fine” for 1970’s “My Sweet Lord.” Though the court said it was unintentional, he still paid over a half-million dollars to the original publishers.

In 1985 Dire Straits hit the top of the album charts for the first time with “Brothers In Arms,” featuring the #1 hit “Money For Nothing.”
