In 1968, the three-day Miami Pop Festival began, featuring Steppenwolf, Procul Harum, Three Dog Night, Fleetwood Mac, the Turtles and The Grateful Dead among others. Tickets went for as high as $7 for the 100,000 attendees.  

In 1971, George Harrison became the first former Beatle to have a #1 single. His “My Sweet Lord,” originally intended for Billy Preston, hit the top of the US charts. 

And Happy Birthday to keyboardist and bandleader Edgar Winter, who turns 75 today.
