“The Last Waltz,” the final concert by the Band, took place on this day in 1976. The Thanksgiving show at San Francisco’s Winterland featured Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, and many others.  

On this day in 1966, The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their live debut in Britain at London’s “Bag O’Nails” club. Members of the Beatles, Stones, and The Who were in the crowd.  

And in 1969, John Lennon sent his distinguished M.B.E. medal back to the Queen. He wrote that he was returning it in protest against British foreign policy…and because his latest record, “Cold Turkey,” was slipping down the British pop charts.
