October 12 –

In 1979, Jethro Tull leader Ian Anderson was hit in the eye by a rose, thrown by an overzealous fan at Madison Square Garden. Two Tull gigs had to be cancelled while Ian recovered.

In 1973, Elton John got a gold record for his two-LP set, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

On this day in 1968, Big Brother and The Holding Company’s “Cheap Thrills” album hit #1 on the charts. It was their second LP, and the last with Janis Joplin on vocals.
