On this day in 1973, Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re an American Band” hit #1 on the singles chart. That was a nice birthday present for Mark Farner, guitarist and vocalist for Grand Funk – he’s 73 today.
In 1980 John Lennon ended a five-year hiatus from the media, when he agreed to be interviewed by “Newsweek” magazine. The article was done to promote his and Yoko’s upcoming album “Double Fantasy.”
And in 1963, the Rolling Stones began their first tour of England, along with the Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley, and Little Richard.
