Two classic singles were certified gold today: In 1968, it was The Doors for “Hello, I Love You,” and in 1973, Deep Purple for “Smoke on the Water.”
In 1964, The Beatles and Bob Dylan met for the first time at New York’s Hotel Delmonico. At the meeting, Dylan introduced the band to marijuana for the first time.
And the “Get Tough on Toxics” concert, organized by Don Henley, was held at the Long Beach Arena on this day in 1986. Performers included Neil Young, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham.
