On August 23rd, 1962, John Lennon became the first Beatle to be married, when he exchanged vows with his art school sweetheart Cynthia Powell. Paul McCartney was best man, and the marriage lasted six years.
Today in 1969, The Rolling Stones started a four-week stay at the top of the singles chart with “Honkey Tonk Women,” their 5th US #1.
And today in 1967, the late Keith Moon of The Who celebrated his 21st birthday by driving a Lincoln Continental into a Holiday Inn swimming pool. The Who was banned from the hotel chain for life after the incident.
