In 1965, Jefferson Airplane made their first ever public appearance at the Matrix club in San Francisco. The club was also the setting for the cover photo of their biggest album, “Surrealistic Pillow.”  

Today in 1971, John Lennon left his home country for good when he flew from London’s Heathrow Airport to New York City. He’d never set foot in Britain again.  

And Cheap Trick’s single “I Want You to Want Me,” recorded Live at Budokan, went Gold on this day in 1979.
