On this day in 1995, we lost guitarist Jerry Garcia, the founder and leader of The Grateful Dead, when he died of a heart attack at age 53.

One of the most popular and influential rock & roll shows ever debuted on this day in 1963. “Ready, Steady, Go,” a weekly British series that gave early exposure to the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Kinks, and many others.

In 1986, Queen performed their last-ever live concert with Freddie Mercury. They headlined the day at England’s Knebworth Park in front of over 120 thousand fans.
