August 5
On this day in 1972, Aerosmith signed to Columbia Records, just after record company boss Clive Davis saw them play a New York Club called “Max’s Kansas City.”
The Runaways formed on this day in 1974. The all-female band featured Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and Micki Steele, later of the Bangles.
And happy birthday to Rick Derringer. The guitarist, who also produced and played on the Edgar Winter Group’s “Frankenstein,” among other classics, is 74 today.
