Today in Rock History with Chris DeCarlo

July 28 |

In 1973, one of the the biggest rock festivals of all time took place, The Watkins Glen “Summer Jam.” The Grateful Dead, The Band, and The Allman Brothers played for a crowd of over 600,000—nearly 150,000 more than Woodstock.

Six years later, in 1979, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Journey and Thin Lizzy were the headliners at another festival – The World Series of Rock, held at Ohio’s Cleveland Stadium.

And born on this day in 1945, the late Rick Wright, keyboardist and co-founder of Pink Floyd.
